A notable event in this context was the “plug grab” on March 6, 1984, when citizens and the mayor of Senise blocked the crane set to install the plug intended to halt the flow of the Sinni River to the Ionian Sea, thereby filling the reservoir. The cap remained “under impoundment” for months until the community eventually returned it to the dam builders in exchange for an agreement with the Basilicata Region.
